Artist Bio:

Linda Chaney is a self-taught artist from Hamilton, Ohio, with a love for buildings, bridges, and colorful cityscapes. She has been painting for more than 20 years, but it wasn't until the last few years that she decided to truly pursue her passion and take her art more seriously.

Linda's work is inspired by the energy and personality of cities, especially Cincinnati, the Queen City and "The Nati." The iconic Roebling Bridge holds a special place in her heart and has found its way into many of her paintings.

Working with bright colors, bold shapes, expressive lines, and a little bit of imagination, Linda creates cityscapes that aren't meant to be perfect representations of a place. Instead, they capture how a city feels to her busy, colorful, interesting, and full of life.

Linda is the owner of Art by Linda Chaney, LLC, where she shares her original artwork as well as wearable pieces that allow her art to live beyond the canvas.

Artist Statement:

I have always been drawn to buildings, bridges, and cityscapes. There is something about a city that makes me curious. Every building has a history, every street has its own energy, and every window holds a story. When I paint, I often find myself wondering about the people behind those windows. Who lives there? What are they doing? What is their story?

That curiosity is a big part of why I paint cityscapes which I call urban expressionism.

I’m not trying to paint a city exactly as it looks in a photograph. I want to paint how it feels to me. I use bright colors, bold shapes, loose lines, and layers of marks to create movement and energy. My buildings may lean, my lines may cross and wander, and my colors don't always stay where you expect them to. I like that. Cities aren't perfect, and neither are the stories happening inside them.

Some of my paintings are bright and loud, while others are softer and quieter. Sometimes the buildings are right there in front of you, and other times you have to look a little harder to find them. I love creating those little discoveries and giving people a reason to spend more time looking at a painting.

Cincinnati has been a special source of inspiration for me. I love the Queen City, “The Nati,” and especially the Roebling Bridge. I've painted it many times, but each time I see something different in it.

To me, a city is so much more than buildings and streets. It's thousands of people, moments, memories, and stories all happening at once. Color is how I bring that energy and emotion to life.

And no matter how many cityscapes I paint, I still find myself looking at all those windows and wondering what's happening on the other side.
